Robert A. Heinlein famously stated:

The podcast "Data Literacy for Project Managers in the Age of Artificial Intelligence" explores the impact of AI and machine learning on project management. Marcus Glowasz outlines the importance of data literacy and how project managers can stay relevant in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The episode raises an important question: As a senior-level project manager, are you a generalist or a specialist? While being a specialist might have been preferred in the past, the rise of automation and AI has made it more important for professionals to have a broad range of skills and knowledge. However, this doesn't mean that your experience and expertise are not valuable. On the contrary, your project experience, knowledge, skills, and lessons are incredibly valuable assets. Research by the APM below, sets out just how valuable an asset this is.
It’s crucial to stay open-minded and consider the impact of technology on your profession. As AI and machine learning become more integrated into our daily lives, it's essential to think strategically about how you can stay relevant in the coming years. This might involve learning new skills or positioning yourself to take advantage of emerging trends and technologies. Leading consultants PWC provide some insights below on how you can do this.
I encourage you to listen to the podcast and reflect on your own career path. While technology is rapidly changing the business landscape, there are still plenty of opportunities for professionals who are willing to adapt and grow with the times.
Here were my five take-aways on data literacy:
1. Be diligent with data. Treat data with truthfulness and honesty. And recognise data as an asset.
2. Build trust and transparency. Whilst remaining challenging and analytical of the outputs.
3. Disseminate the information. Extraction of only the relevant data and be ruthless in excluding the noise.
4. Effectively combine data with human qualities and attributes. Implement both intuition and experience. Whilst the data informs decision making, the process of making the decision is still down to the individual.
5. Recognising the evolution of digital transformation and its impact on both behaviour and culture.
